Bala Shark
A silver streamlined body with black fin borders; adult groups need long swimming lanes.
Large eyes, a pointed dorsal and a deeply forked tail distinguish the silver body. Dark borders frame pale fins. Juvenile size conceals adult demands.

Appearance and identification
Compared with tinfoil barbs, bala sharks are more streamlined and have pale rather than red fin interiors. Despite the name, they are not true sharks.
Same-species behaviour
Keep five or more; too few can leave subordinates bullied.
Space requirements
A 240 × 60 cm base for an adult group of five or more. Provide long open lanes, strong filtration, oxygen and a secure heavy lid.
Diet and feeding
Offer varied prepared, plant-containing and suitable live or frozen foods; monitor competition during vigorous feeding.
Compatibility limits
Match adult size, activity and environment. Peaceful behaviour does not prevent swallowing small fish.
Aquarium environment
Prioritise water quality and open space. Plants may be eaten.
