Appearance and identification

The absence of a solid golden body does not indicate another species. Compare its broken dark marks with the Odessa male’s red horizontal band.

Same-species behaviour

Keep a mixed-sex group of at least 8–10. Male displays do not mean constant schooling.

Space requirements

A 90 × 30 cm base for a mixed-sex group of at least 8–10; allow for cover and swimming room.

Diet and feeding

Provide varied small prepared, frozen or live foods and plant content; grazing does not replace feeding.

Compatibility limits

Consider companion size and activity, and watch for competition.

Aquarium environment

Plant cover and dark substrate show off natural colours.
