Appearance and identification

Compare the number of vertical bars and the anal-fin shape with the black phantom. White and long-finned varieties are the same species. Males are generally smaller and slimmer, with more pointed dorsal and anal fins.

Same-species behaviour

Keep six or more, preferably twelve, to reduce fin nipping.

Space requirements

Use a 75 × 30 cm footprint for a group. Provide open swimming room and quieter planted areas.

Diet and feeding

Offer flakes or granules with small live or frozen foods.

Compatibility limits

An active fish. A group may spread aggression, but does not guarantee that other fishes' fins will be left alone.

Aquarium environment

Dense planting and floating leaves can provide shaded areas. Retain retreat spaces after pruning.
