Nannostomus erythrurus
A three-banded trade lookalike without a continuous red line
A slender silver-brown pencilfish with dark bands and small red fin-base patches. It is often traded under the three-lined pencilfish name.
- Adult length
- Up to 2.9 cm (standard length, without the tail fin)
- Natural habitat
- Native to fresh waters of Guyana, Bolivia and Brazil.
Trade names are mixed with N. trifasciatus. Confirm identity and monitor chasing and feeding.

Feeds easily. Offer suitably sized food and check it is eaten.
Compatibility limits
A peaceful reputation is no guarantee; choose companions with care.
