- Adult length
- Up to 2.8 cm (standard length, without the tail fin)
- Water temperature
- 20–25 °C
- pH
- 6–8
- Hardness
- 5–12 dGH
- Natural habitat
- Occupies lowland wetlands, ponds, ditches, estuaries and mangrove creeks, often among dense submerged or floating plants.
Check name and origin before purchase.
Appearance and identification
Separate it from A. armatus and A. andamanicus; a shared trade name is not enough to confirm identity.
Same-species behaviour
Active at the surface and tends to aggregate.
Space requirements
Keep surface feeding access and refuge, and prevent escape. Do not assume a tiny container suits it because of its small size.
Diet and feeding
Feeds on small larvae in nature. In aquaria offer suitable animal foods; mosquito-control use does not replace feeding.
Compatibility limits
Take care with companion size. Consider small fish, shrimp and food competition individually.
Aquarium environment
A planted display shows its surface behaviour; it may spawn among floating plants.
