Appearance and identification

The mosaic display pattern is not shared by every individual. Compared with geryi, which has conspicuous barring in both dorsal and caudal fins, pantanalensis lacks comparably prominent bars.

Floor and movement space

A 75 × 30 cm base; adjust for group and layout.

Aquarium environment

Leave smooth clean foraging substrate and open space.

Diet and feeding

Provide suitably sized sinking food; do not rely on leftovers.

Same-species behaviour

Keep at least six. A 75 × 30 cm base (36 × 15 inch) suits them; plan around adult group size, keep substrate clean and feed directly. Often swims in open water away from the bottom.

Compatibility limits

Avoid predatory or aggressive feeding companions.
