Appearance and identification

The dark tail-base patch and pale edging contrast with the more continuous flank stripe of G. pygmaeus. Flank-stripe intensity also varies among hastatus populations.

Use a 60 × 30 cm base.

Aquarium environment

Provide cover and keep swimming and foraging space on clean substrate.

Diet and feeding

Offer sinking foods plus small live or frozen plankton-type foods; do not rely on leftovers.

Same-species behaviour

Keep at least 4–6, ideally 10 or more.

Compatibility limits

Avoid predators and aggressive feeding competitors.
