Panda Cory
Hoplisoma panda
A pale body with a dark eye band, a dark dorsal-fin patch and a separate patch on the tail base.
- Adult length
- Up to 5 cm (standard length, without the tail fin)
- Water temperature
- 22–25 °C
- Lifespan
- 5–10 years
- pH
- 6–7.4
- Hardness
- 1–12 dGH
- Natural habitat
- Inhabits clearwater and blackwater streams, often over sand; some habitats receive Andean snowmelt, bringing stronger flow and cooler water seasonally.
Keep a group and provide sinking food deliberately. Leave clean, smooth substrate for foraging in a planted aquarium.
Appearance and identification
Compare the back and tail markings with H. metae; an eye band alone does not identify either fish.
Floor and movement space
A 45 × 30 cm base is suggested; allow for adult group size, foraging space and layout.
Aquarium environment
Leave clean, smooth substrate and open foraging space. These fish still need deliberate feeding.
Diet and feeding
Provide suitably sized sinking food and a varied diet; leftovers are not enough.
Same-species behaviour
Keep at least six.
Compatibility limits
Choose appropriately sized peaceful companions. Small shrimp may be eaten.
