Appearance and identification

Unlike the blue emperor's broad dark band, this species has finer reddish rows and two faint shoulder marks. Colour alone should not be used to sex it.

Same-species behaviour

Keep six to eight or more. Monitor chasing and feeding.

Space requirements

Provide mature water, planting, retreats and a swimming route. 45–60 L is suggested.

Diet and feeding

Offer small dry and frozen or live foods.

Compatibility limits

Match companion size and activity; avoid strong aggression or feeding competition.

Aquarium environment

Plant cover suits it.
