Appearance and identification
Knodus borki was long confused in trade with Boehlkea fredcochui. The central tail marking differs from the latter's transverse tail-base mark. The blue emperor has a more conspicuous dark lateral band. Mature females generally have rounder bellies and males slightly stronger coloration.
Same-species behaviour
Keep at least ten. Monitor crowding, chasing and feeding.
Space requirements
Allow a 75 × 38 cm footprint for a small group, with an open swimming route beside shelter.
Diet and feeding
Offer suitably sized prepared foods with small live or frozen foods, plus some plant or algae ingredients.
Aquarium environment
Planting and partial shade can provide shelter without reducing swimming space.
