Labigastromyzon changtingensis

Labigastromyzon changtingensis

Broad dark bars with narrow pale gaps; males may show a black-and-yellow dorsal edge

A low broad head precedes broad brown flank bars separated by narrower pale spaces. Males may have yellow dorsal fins and stronger black-and-yellow display colour.

Natural habitat
Native to hillstream waters of southeastern China.

Prefers cooler, oxygen-rich moving water.

Appearance and identification

Its broad bars and narrower gaps distinguish it from the finer spots and narrower bars of L. fangi. A yellow dorsal fin or bar count alone cannot separate it reliably from P. fasciatus.

Aquarium environment

Provide flowing, oxygen-rich conditions; a planted setup must first provide suitable flow and aeration.

Diet and feeding

Accepts food tablets and frozen foods. Observe feeding after introduction; clinging to surfaces does not mean an algae-only diet.

Compatibility limits

Check both species' flow, oxygen and feeding requirements individually before choosing companions.
