Plan a large, oxygen-rich pond; inadequate space and low oxygen increase jumping risk.
Appearance and identification
Golden, natural and blue forms share one species. A short dorsal, single forked tail and barbel-free mouth are useful browsing cues; colour alone cannot confirm identity. Larger fish can eat small fish.
Same-species behaviour
Active swimmer; no sourced numerical group recommendation adopted.
Space requirements
Provide open swimming space and reliable oxygenation. A verified footprint, population context and minimum pond volume are not yet available.
Diet and feeding
Offer suitable pond food; natural foods include insects and other invertebrates, and larger fish take small fish.
Compatibility limits
Small fish can be prey; check species-specific medication sensitivity before treatment.
Aquarium environment
Planting can provide cover, while open swimming room and oxygenation remain essential.
Measurement notes and sources
Canal & River Trust lists 25–50 cm without a length basis or husbandry context; USGS separately lists 102 cm. Neither calibrates the sprite.
