Appearance and identification

Males have steel-blue highlights, variable dark vertical bars and an orange-yellow patch in the dorsal fin; females are larger and fuller. Compare the dorsal patch and flank bars with male L. perugiae.

Same-species behaviour

Keep same-species groups with two or three females per male, plus swimming space and refuges.

Diet and feeding

Offer small complete pellets or flakes with plant material and small frozen foods. A plant-rich diet may reduce leaf nibbling.

Compatibility limits

Choose peaceful small non-livebearers that share its conditions. Avoid breeding alongside similar livebearers because of hybridisation risk.

Aquarium environment

Use robust rooted and floating plants with dense refuge areas for adults and fry. Soft leaves may be grazed.
