Nanochromis parilus
Nanochromis parilus
Females have a purple-tinged belly and are often more colorful. Males have stripes on the upper half of the caudal fin, while females lack spots on its lower portion.
- Adult length
- Up to 8 cm (standard length, without the tail fin)
- Water temperature
- 22–25 °C
- pH
- 6–7
- Hardness
- 1–8 dGH
- Natural habitat
- Common along slower-flowing margins of the Congo River.
Similar to N. nudiceps; the combination of caudal-fin patterns offers an identification clue. Soft, acidic water and stable care conditions remain important.
Social behaviour and territory
A compatible pair is preferable, as aggression toward its own species is pronounced. Around 60×30 cm of footprint per pair is a reference.
Diet and feeding
Live and frozen foods should form the main diet, supplemented with suitably sized dry food.
