Dwarf ricefish
A tiny translucent ricefish with a fine golden line and bright eyes.
A very small translucent ricefish, illustrated as a slender adult male. Tiny mixed imports can include other Oryzias species.
- Adult length
- Up to 1.7 cm (standard length, without the tail fin)
- Water temperature
- 22–25 °C
- pH
- 6–7.5
- Hardness
- 2–15 dGH
Food particle size and gentle companions matter. Minimise handling and air exposure; tiny size does not justify arbitrary miniature containers.
Appearance and identification
Compare the pale clear tail with orange tail markings in similar miniature ricefish. Mixed shipments require individual checks of head shape, pigmentation and male anal-fin structures; this illustration cannot certify a shipment.
Same-species behaviour
The source suggests eight or more identified conspecifics. Confirm mixed imports; persistent schooling is not promised.
Space requirements
A 40 × 20 cm base is a source reference. Provide a stable mature environment, gentle flow and fine cover; image size is not a stocking rule.
Diet and feeding
Use powdered dry food, tiny planktonic foods, microworms or newly hatched Artemia. Check actual ingestion.
Compatibility limits
Avoid large fish, predators and vigorous food competitors; keep identified breeding stocks separate.
Aquarium environment
Balance fine cover and open water. Plants cannot replace suitable food or stable water. Baby-shrimp and plant-damage risks remain unverified.
