Appearance and identification

Separated from P. anguillaris by nasal barbels, an anal-fin origin behind the dorsal-fin base and caudal-base pattern in combination. Distinction from P. doriae also uses cheek scales and fin rays. Blue colour alone is not enough. Sumatran neon loach is a trade name, not an artificial fluorescent strain.

Floor and movement space

20 US gallons. Consider the group, the elongated body, cover and feeding access together.

Aquarium environment

Use gentle flow with a planted, sheltered layout, keeping bottom feeding access.

Diet and feeding

Offer small sinking foods plus suitably sized live or frozen animal foods. A micropredator should not depend on leftovers or algae wafers alone.

Same-species behaviour

Keep at least 6 with extensive refuge during acclimation. Check individual condition and feeding.

Compatibility limits

Tiny shrimp or other young animals may be eaten.
