Parosphromenus parvulus
Parosphromenus parvulus
In breeding coloration, the upper body is pale and the lower body dark, with red spots on black unpaired fins. This differs from the white spots and flame-red tail of ornaticauda.
- Adult length
- Up to 2.7 cm
- Water temperature
- 23–26 °C
- pH
- 4.8–5.5
- Hardness
- 2–5 dGH
- Natural habitat
- Inhabits creeks at rainforest edges, among grasses and plant debris.
Does best in acidic water around pH 4.5.
Social behaviour and territory
Does not form tight schools. Pairs may be kept for breeding; groups need caves and visual barriers. Watch nest defence and subordinate fish.
Diet and feeding
Offer tiny, suitably sized live foods. Dry food is unreliably accepted; confirm the fish actually eat.
