- Adult length
- Up to 3.5 cm (standard length, without the tail fin)
- Water temperature
- 20–30 °C
- pH
- 7–8
- Hardness
- 5–12 dGH

Appearance and identification
Look for separate dark flank spots rather than four neat circles in every photograph; pose, lighting and scale pattern affect visibility. Contrast these spots with the dark dorsal sector of P. tico. Mature males are smaller and have a conspicuous gonopodium.
Same-species behaviour
Keep at least four, with more females than males, or keep the sexes separately.
Space requirements
Over 60 L for at least 4 fish.
Diet and feeding
Provide small live, frozen and complete dry foods.
Compatibility limits
Similarly sized, peaceful small fish make possible companions. Check each one's water requirements and behaviour.
Aquarium environment
Plant the margins densely to give initially shy fish places to retreat, while keeping swimming space.
