Blackstripe livebearer
A pale fish with a fine stripe and staggered births.
This female has a pale flank, fine dark stripe and ordinary anal fin. Smaller males have a gonopodium; the source describes head-down displays, not a permanent swimming posture.
- Adult length
- Up to 3 cm
- Water temperature
- 24–28 °C
- Hardness
- 2–10 dGH
Importer maxima of 2 cm male and 3.5 cm female lack SL/TL. Illustrated TL and lifespan are unknown. An unquantified brackish occurrence does not justify routine salt.
Appearance and identification
The linked roseni male has an orange dorsal and dark scale edges; this female is plainer. The link compares appearance and competition risks, not close relationship or compatibility. Births separated by days do not imply guaranteed daily reproduction. A 2023 genomic study confirms extensive maternal provisioning; that does not establish stocking capacity.
Same-species behaviour
The importer describes frequent male courtship and male contests it characterises as mild, with head-down displays and an extended gonopodium. This observation does not establish freedom from conflict at any density; minimum group, sex ratio and footprint remain unverified.
Diet and feeding
A specific feeding regime remains unverified. Watch whether small individuals obtain food; frequent reproduction does not prove adequate nutrition.
Compatibility limits
The importer describes weak food competition and favours species-only keeping. Specific companions and shrimp or fry risks are unverified; small size or overlapping temperatures do not establish safety.
Aquarium environment
Plant-specific effects, shrimp safety and fry survival remain unverified.
