A large disc-bodied adult with a hazardous sting.
Appearance and identification
Rex from the middle and upper Tocantins commonly has more clustered orange-yellow spots. Black ray and P12 labels alone cannot identify a fish; check provenance, ventral and tail characters too.
Floor and movement space
Plan a 240 × 120 cm floor and 60 cm height for an adult. Keep 23–28°C, pH 6–7.5 preferably below neutral, and 2–12 dGH.
Aquarium environment
An open floor suits the broad disc. Rooted plants may be damaged and attached plants may also be disturbed.
Diet and feeding
Offer varied, suitable aquatic animal foods and watch feeding after arrival.
Compatibility limits
Small fish and shrimp may be prey, while other fish can attach to or damage the disc.
Same-species behaviour
Monitor chasing and disc biting during pairing and keep separate accommodation available.
