Appearance and identification

Both it and Labigastromyzon fangi cling to stones, but fin colour alone cannot identify them. Check lower-lip adhesive anatomy. This species often has coarse irregular flank blotches; fangi may show dense small spots or finer bars.

Floor and movement space

Allow a 75 × 30 cm base. Consider group size, feeding surfaces, current and competition.

Aquarium environment

Use mature grazing stones, clean oxygen-rich flow and suitable attached plants. Leave exposed feeding surfaces; an immature planted tank lacks reliable biofilm.

Diet and feeding

Provide mature biofilm-covered surfaces, suitable sinking food and small live or frozen items. Check actual intake; grazing does not mean surviving on tank glass alone.

Same-species behaviour

Keep six or more, but males defend feeding places and may harass smaller similar loaches. Spread food access.

Compatibility limits

Cover climbing exits. Protect thin newcomers from competition. Take care mixing with goldfish or other hillstream loaches.
