Sewellia lineolata
Sewellia lineolata
A flattened body and spread paired fins suit fast water.
Lines on the flanks help distinguish it from spotted relatives.
- Adult length
- Up to 5.7 cm (standard length, without the tail fin)
- Water temperature
- 20–24 °C
- Lifespan
- 8–10 years
- pH
- 6–7.5
- Hardness
- 1–10 dGH
- Natural habitat
- Inhabits shallow, rapid, oxygen-rich headwaters and tributaries over bedrock, sand, gravel and boulders, often where riffles alternate with pools.
Warm water is acceptable only with sufficient oxygen.
Appearance and identification
Long flank lines contrast with the finer spots of B. kweichowensis; paired-fin and underside structure also matter.
Floor and movement space
Allow a 75 × 30 cm base and six or more fish, with dispersed grazing surfaces and barriers.
Diet and feeding
Provide sustained oxygenation, flow and mature grazing surfaces. Visible algae are not a complete diet.
Same-species behaviour
Keep six or more, with distributed grazing surfaces because conspecifics compete.
Compatibility limits
Distribute feeding surfaces and visual barriers because individuals can defend preferred areas. Close escape gaps.
