Ambastaia sidthimunki
Dark lines form a chain-like pattern; compare adults with A. nigrolineata rather than relying on juvenile markings.
- Adult length
- Up to 5.5 cm (standard length, without the tail fin)
- Water temperature
- 20–30 °C
- pH
- 5.5–7.5
- Hardness
- 1–12 dGH
Small size does not make solitary keeping suitable; provide a social group, cover and sufficient floor space. Reports on nipping and aggression differ, so do not label it unconditionally peaceful. A planted aquarium may be considered with feeding, snail/shrimp risks and long-fin risks stated explicitly.
Appearance and identification
Dark lines form a chain-like pattern; compare adults with A. nigrolineata rather than relying on juvenile markings. Compare fish at the same life stage: adults of this species retain a conspicuous chain pattern, whereas A. nigrolineata has more dominant longitudinal lines.
Floor and movement space
Seriously Fish recommends a 80 × 30 cm base. Assess adult group size, shelter and layout separately; this is not a stocking guarantee.
Aquarium environment
The source gives genus-level guidance that soft-leaved plants may be eaten. Retain shelter and floor space; safety for ornamental snails and shrimp is not guaranteed.
Diet and feeding
Offer varied, suitably sized prepared food and frozen or live small animal foods, with suitable plant foods. Snail-eating does not replace feeding.
Same-species behaviour
Seriously Fish recommends at least five or six, preferably ten or more; this is social-group guidance, not the aquarium's stocking limit.
