Appearance and identification

These are sexes of one species. This species has a much smaller mouth than other small social loaches, with a different body form and markings, so housing and feeding are not interchangeable.

Floor and movement space

A 60 × 30 cm base.

Aquarium environment

Use a mature aquarium with plants and cover.

Diet and feeding

Provide food small enough for its tiny mouth; it uses the lower and middle water layers.

Same-species behaviour

Keep at least eight to ten, ideally more.

Compatibility limits

Avoid larger companions that monopolise small foods.
