A freshwater lake species. Avoid pH below 8.
Appearance and identification
Its bold blotches contrast with the finer X-shaped marks of Mugilogobius myxodermus. It uses shells; not every goby does.
Floor and movement space
Provide stable stones, root-like cover and several retreats, optionally clean empty shells. Leave feeding space.
Aquarium environment
Plants can divide resting areas among stones and roots. Keep accessible feeding locations; it needs alkaline water.
Diet and feeding
Eats tiny snails. Confirm each fish feeds.
Same-species behaviour
Shells provide shelter, but eggs may also be laid on exposed surfaces.
Compatibility limits
Give food access and retreats; not all lake fishes are compatible.
