Appearance and identification

Found on Unguja in Tanzania's Zanzibar archipelago. Old guentheri labels included fish later assigned to melanospilus.

Same-species behaviour

Breeds in trios and groups. Watch pursued individuals.

Space requirements

Keep feeding access clear and allow separation and cleaning.

Diet and feeding

Offer varied small live foods and occasional frozen food. Fry take Artemia.

Compatibility limits

Check feeding and refuge access. Rivalry calls for separation options.

Aquarium environment

Keep the planted display separate from substrate-egg management: removable spawning media make collection easy.
