Appearance and identification

Like O. eversi it broods eggs until hatching, but it is more elongated, has a pronounced silver stripe and grows larger. Do not use the smaller species' tank dimensions.

Same-species behaviour

Keep at least ten. Plan room for its elongated body and watch for transfer stress.

Space requirements

At least 100 cm length, a 0.40 m² base and 120 L. A metre-long tank is preferred.

Diet and feeding

Active, but small-mouthed. Offer appropriately sized flakes and small frozen foods and check intake.

Compatibility limits

Keep traceable groups of its own kind. A mixed rainbowfish tank works only with adequate feeding and space.

Aquarium environment

Use plants mainly for edge refuge and fry cover, leaving open lanes. Females retain eggs until hatching, so do not expect eggs to be brushed onto plants. Do not manually strip eggs.
