Pea pufferSmall; source reports approximately 2–3 cm, measurement basis unspecifiedA blotched dwarf puffer with demanding feeding and territorial behaviour

Compare identity, adult scale, food and behaviour before choosing a puffer. Similar juvenile photographs can hide very different long-term needs.
Read the full guideThe pea puffer is Carinotetraodon travancoricus; the mbu puffer is Tetraodon mbu. Both referenced profiles describe freshwater species. A different puffer trade name does not establish the same water requirements. Resolve the scientific identity before deciding how to prepare the water; leave uncertain names unresolved rather than borrowing care from a familiar species.
The pea puffer is a small species; the mbu becomes a large fish. Similar-sized photographs do not make their adult space requirements comparable. Check the measurement, life stage and basis of the size information in each profile. An image width is not a biological measurement, and a missing value should not be estimated from a similar-looking fish.
Cover and broken sightlines matter for pea puffers, as do fin-nipping and competition for food. Small size does not remove behavioural needs. The mbu profile describes a diet including shellfish. Assess reliable feeding species by species rather than treating snail-eating as a job description for the whole gallery or assuming all will accept the same prepared food.
For the small pea puffer, start with behaviour and environment. For the mbu, start with adult space and feeding. This helps you narrow the candidates before choosing by appearance. Inclusion in the gallery is not a small-aquarium recommendation. The virtual aquarium records a visual arrangement, not a verified stocking or compatibility plan.
